2020 Mazda CX-9 vs Ford Explorer

When you're looking for the next vehicle to add to your life, and enhance it, there can be a lot of stress involved if you're trying to find the exact right one. At Pearson Mazda, we want to make sure our customers know the options that are out there, and understand which one is best suited for all of their needs. Today we are focusing on the 2020 Mazda CX-9 and the 2020 Ford Explorer. The CX-9 starts off the model year with available 2nd-row captain's chair seating, an available 9-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and additional standard features like i-Activsense. The Explorer enters the fray all-new in 2020, although it still has a tight third-row which can be uncomfortable for your passengers. Keep reading down below to find out which of these SUVs we recommend the most!

2020 Mazda CX-9 Power & Handling

One standard engine is in charge of powering the 2020 Mazda CX-9. This engine is a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, which can get up to 310 pound-feet of torque and around 270 horsepower. Paired with this engine is a six-speed automatic transmission, which routes power to the front wheels. However, you can opt to get all-wheel drive, which is especially useful during months where the weather isn't as good as it is usually. As you can tell, Mazda is making sure that you are getting all of the power and capability you need with the CX-9. You will never feel let down, no matter the driving situation.

2020 Ford Explorer Power & Handling

Ford overcompensates with the Explorer by offering a few different engines, none of which we love as much as the CX-9's. The base engine is a turbocharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder, which can get up to 300 horsepower. Another option is the twin-turbo V6, which comes with either the Platinum or ST trim. With the Platinum trim, it produces 365 horsepower, and with the ST it offers up to 400 horsepower. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive being made available. You'll also be getting a ten-speed automatic transmission.

2020 Mazda CX-9 Features & Design

Beyond all of the power and capability, Mazda is also offering the CX-9 with a great number of available trim levels. The base one, called Sport, gets you tri-zone climate control, a power-driver's seat, 18-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, and i-Activsense driver-assist suite. Additional features come with the Touring trim, like a power rear liftgate, a 9-inch touchscreen display, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, leather seating, and a power-passenger seat. You'll love other available features like a power moonroof, Nappa leather seating, LED grill accent lighting, and a heated steering wheel.

2020 Ford Explorer Features & Design

Again, Ford attempts to compete when it comes to the trim level lineup. Some of the standard features with this SUV include an 8-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a power liftgate, Ford Co-Pilot 360, and a 40/20/40 2nd-row seat. Higher trims offer push-button start, LED signature lighting, roof-rack side rails, 2nd-row heated seats, a wireless charging pad, 20-inch alloy wheels, leather seating surfaces, and power-fold 3rd-row seats. We still enjoy the standard and available features of the Mazda CX-9 more.

While the Ford Explorer tries to put up a fight, the overall sportiness and fun of the Mazda CX-9 is hard to beat. You will get all of the features you want, along with the right amount of power to get you where you need to go. Stop by Pearson Mazda today to find out what options we have available for you to choose from.
