Electric vehicles don’t just operate differently than gasoline-powered vehicles — they need to be cared for differently, too. While they need less maintenance, routine Mazda maintenance is still important. We’re highlighting all the service EVs need at Pearson Mazda to give you a closer look.
Battery Maintenance
EV batteries typically don’t need maintenance. However, there are ways you can extend their lifespan:
- Avoid extreme temperatures
- Limit fast-charging
- Don’t charge your battery too full or let the charge get too low
- Try not to charge your vehicle right after you drive it
Change the Fluids
While an EV doesn’t utilize engine oil, it does have other fluids. It includes brake fluid, coolant, and windshield wiper fluid.
Your owner’s manual will give you an outline of the recommended timeline to replace your fluids. In the meantime, you should monitor their levels to ensure they don’t get too low.
Tire Rotation
As a general rule of thumb, you should rotate your tires every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. This process includes exchanging your tires’ positions on your vehicle. That helps to keep them from wearing down unevenly.
Brake Inspection
For your safety, it’s important to have your brakes inspected regularly. Your brake pads will wear down over time and need to be replaced. Depending on your brakes, you may need to resurface your rotors as well.
Hybrid Maintenance
Keep in mind, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, like the Mazda CX-90 PHEV, have an engine in addition to an electric motor. So, they will still require the traditional service that an internal combustion engine requires, such as engine oil changes and filter replacements.
