First generation
The Mazda CX-5 was first introduced to us all in the 2012 model year. The thing that made this model stand out from the rest of the Mazda vehicles at the time was the KODO design language, which means more of a focus on a bold, aggressive stance, along with a kind of sleek and modern element that kept things moving forward. Another way that the CX-5 managed to stand on its own was with the two different engine choices that were available. The first engine in this exciting lineup is the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. Here you could get as much as 155 horsepower! The second engine, outputting around 184 horsepower, was a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder. Both engines happened to get a 6-speed automatic transmission to round everything out. The CX-5 was, obviously, a major success for Mazda. Second generation
In order to innovate, change always has to happen. That was why, in 2017, Mazda officially unveiled the second generation of the CX-5 model. Many different upgrades and changes were included, such as the fact that this Mazda was now a little larger than the previous iteration. One of the biggest additions to the second generation is the brand-new engine. This engine happens to be a turbocharged 2.2-liter diesel, which offers you around 173 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Other important additions include a larger infotainment screen and better sound insulation. We couldn't skip over safety technology, either!
